After the February Valentine’s Weekend release of Fifty Shades of Grey, it went on to become the #1 Movie in the world and also breaking lots of records, making over a half of a billion dollars at about 568.80 million since its premiere date we knew we would be getting the sequels for sure but we just didn’t know when And fans all over have been dying to find out. Today in Las Vegas at the annual CinemaCon convention Universal finally revealed that the second movie in the Trilogy, Fifty Shades Darker would be released on February 10th 2017 and the third and final film Fifty Shades Freed will be released February 9th 2018. I think it’s great that they’re keeping all the movies on the week Valentine’s Day, probably because it was such a success the first time. Even though there is still time, they still haven’t announced a new director ever since Sam Taylor Johnson has stated she will not return to direct, and screenwriter Kelly Marcel won’t be returning either. But it seems there is already a new screenwriter for the next film, it has been reported that the Author of the Trilogy E.L. James’ Husband Niall Leonard is set to pen Fifty Shades Darker. “Niall is an outstanding writer in his own right, with multiple established credits, and we are lucky to have him join Team Fifty,” says producer Michael De Luca in a statement to THR. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have both said their plans were to do all three movies but there are rumors that they are renegotiating their contracts for more money. There were also rumors that Jamie was leaving the films but then a rep for Jamie confirmed back in February by releasing a statement “Jamie is delighted that the film is breaking box office records worldwide and whilst the studio has not made any formal announcements about sequels, he is looking forward to making the next film,” Dornan’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE.
So I’m all happy about all this now that we’re finally getting somewhere but having to wait until February 2017 to see Ana and Christian is not gonna be fun. Hurry 2017!
